How To Prolong the Battery Life of Your Car

May 06, 2024 Leave a message

People who drive should know that, generally speaking, the normal service life of a car battery is 2 to 3 years; however, improper selection or neglect of maintenance will cause the battery to "run out of power" prematurely and shorten the service life of the product, but we are In daily driving, these actions often shorten the service life.

1. The cigarette lighter is in power-on mode when the flame is off.

The cigarette lighter is a component that all cars have. It is used to facilitate the owner to light a cigarette when smoking. The cigarette lighter uses power to achieve its cigarette lighting effect. It is a very important power output interface in the car. In order to improve the convenience and comfort of using the car, many car owners often use this power interface to connect many external devices, such as GPS, driving recorders, air purifiers, etc. These devices rely on power from the cigarette lighter to work. The additional electrical equipment itself increases the burden on the battery, and the cigarette lighter of some models is still in the power-on mode when the engine is turned off. If the external equipment is not unplugged, the battery power will be consumed and the battery will be damaged.

Maintenance-free lead-acid batteries are generally used, and their general service life is about 3 years. However, if used properly, the service life of a battery can even be extended to 5 to 6 years. Of course, if used improperly, the battery is likely to be destroyed in less than 3 years. The reason why there is such a big difference has a lot to do with the daily car usage habits of car owners.

2. Do not turn off the multimedia or air conditioning system before turning off the engine.

Some car owners forget or try to save trouble and do not turn off the multimedia system or air-conditioning system before turning off the vehicle. These systems will automatically turn on when the vehicle is started next time. This invisibly causes the vehicle's instantaneous power load to be too high, especially if the air-conditioning is not turned off. Doing this for a long time will cause excessive wear on the battery.

3. Use electricity for a long time after turning off the engine

Continuing to use electricity after the engine is turned off includes many situations, such as using electrical appliances in the car for a long time after the engine is turned off, forgetting to turn off the lights, etc. At this time, the car's generator is not working, and the battery is in a "dry consumption" state without charging. Its reduced capacity is likely to cause the vehicle to be unable to start, and excessive discharge will cause great damage to the battery itself.

4. Prolonged or frequent ignition

Each time you start the engine, the ignition time should not exceed 3 seconds. If the engine fails to start for the first time, do not ignite frequently. It should be ignited again after an interval of 15 seconds. Otherwise, the battery will frequently provide strong current to the starter. causing its own losses.

5. Do not unplug external devices after turning off the engine.

Nowadays, there are more and more external devices used in cars, and the additional electrical devices themselves increase the burden on the battery. In some models, the cigarette lighter is still in power-on mode when the engine is turned off, which consumes the battery.
