In the lithium ion battery market, lithium battery is just a general name for lithium ion batteries. Actually there are different kind of lithium ion batteries according to the chemistry of battery positive plate materials, mainly LiFePO4 and NCM two types. What is the real life cycle of these two batteries? The article below will give you an answer.

The remaining capacity of the lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries is still remaining 84% after 5000 cycles, while the remaining capacity of the NCM lithium-ion battery is 66% after the cycle life 3900 times.

If the remaining capacity / initial capacity = 80% is used as the detection end point, the current 1C cycle life of the lithium iron phosphate battery laboratory is more than 3500 times, and some reaches 5000 times, while the 1C cycle life of the ternary lithium-ion battery laboratory is about 2500 times.

At the point of cycle life, the real life of lithium ion iron phosphate batteries is much longer than that of NCM lithium ion batteries. Under the same number of cycles, the remaining capacity of lithium ion iron phosphate batteries is also much more than that of NCM lithium ion batteries. In addition to the large gap between the two batteries in terms of cycle life, the two are also different in terms of safety performance.

Theoretically, the number of charging and discharging times of lithium ion iron phosphate batteries and NCM lithium-ion batteries is more than 2,000 times, exaggerating a little, giving you a charge a day, you can use it for more than five years. The general electric vehicle is charged once in three days, so the life of lithium iron phosphate batteries and NCM lithium-ion batteries can basically reach about 8 years. If 1,000 charge-discharge cycles are performed, the ternary lithium-ion battery has essentially decayed by 50%, which means that the power can only run half of the original mileage.

Lithium iron phosphate battery cycle life reaches more than 2000 times by the standard charging (5-hour rate). The lead-acid battery of the same quality is 1~1.5 years at most, while if the lithium ion iron phosphate battery is used under the same conditions, the theoretical life will reach 7~8 years. Comprehensively considered, the performance price ratio is more than 4 times that of lead-acid batteries in theory. High current discharge can be high current 2C rapid charge and discharge, under the dedicated charger, 1.5C charging within 40 minutes can make the battery overflow, starting current up to 2C, while lead-acid batteries do not have this performance.

The theoretical life of ternary lithium-ion batteries is 1200 times of complete charge and discharge, that is, complete cycle life, according to the frequency of use, three days of complete charge and discharge, 120 times a year of complete charge and discharge, ternary lithium-ion battery service life theoritically can be 10 years, even if there is loss during use or the number of charging and discharging days is reduced, it can also reach 8 years. Note that here is talking about capacity life, after 8years the capacity of ternary lithium-ion batteries will have more than sixty percent, which is the standard. Therefore, the real life of ternary material lithium-ion batteries is generally about 8-10 years.
